The Splendor of Engraving

The Louvre's Chalcography

To protect the world's cultural and artistic classics, showcase the charm of printmaking art, and to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations in 2024, while promoting exchanges in the field of humanities and fostering cross-cultural dialogue between China and foreign civilizations, Meet You Museum, in collaboration with the French National Museum Alliance Workshop, presents the exhibition "Splendor of Engraving: The Louvre's Chalcography Collection."

This exhibition will showcase 108 copperplate engravings and 2 copperplate matrices. These works of art are meticulously crafted using centuries-old engraving techniques passed down by the French National Museum Alliance Workshop. They utilize copperplate molds originating from the 17th to 20th centuries in the Louvre Museum's collection, thus reviving the splendor of artistic treasures from the Louvre Museum. Each limited-edition copperplate engraving is labeled with a catalog number from the former Louvre printmaking studio and stamped with the RMN-GP seal of the French National Museum Alliance. The exhibition will begin with a copperplate engraving of "Portrait of Louis XIV," serving as the starting point of the narrative. It will then be divided into five thematic sections: "Glory of the King," "Reshaping the Classics," "Traces of Time," "Craftsmanship's Heritage," and "Continuing Narratives." Through these themes, the exhibition will present the achievements of the French National Museum Alliance Workshop and a series of backstage stories.
