From Matisse, Miro and Picasso to Basquiat

From Post-Impressionism to the 20th century, the styles of Western modern art have been closely intertwined with the dramatic changes of the era. So as industrialization has its impact on human activities in modern society, new forms of expression and visual languages emerged. Artistic concepts underwent a complete transformation, giving rise to a multitude of diverse and complex movements.

The art of the 20th century, labeled as "modern art," is even more vibrant and exhilarating due to this designation. From the streets of Paris  to the shores of New York across the ocean, artists continuously broke boundaries, aspiring towards a grand vision with multiple facets, and pursuing a spirit of transcendence that is more liberating.

This exhibition features 100 artworks from 19 artists, including 92 print works, 2 ink and wash manuscript drawings (by Picasso and Keith Haring), and several sculptures. With various types of printmaking such as lithography, woodcut, and screen printing, spanning nearly a century, the exhibition showcases the charm of printmaking techniques. Focusing on the latter half of the 19th century to contemporary art, it covers various categories including Fauvism, Cubism, Surrealism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art, presenting a century-long history of development in European and American contemporary art.

This visual spectacle guides the audience to explore the perception of the real world and the subjective world by significant artists and classic genres, as well as the expression of content and form, along with the dynamic trajectories of change.
